Temperatures are dropping, leaves are changing color, and there’s an abundance of cute decorations out there for your home. If you’re a home seller, however, you may want to keep the decorating to a minimum.

That’s just one tip I’ve got for you if you’re thinking of selling your home this fall or winter. Here are some more:

  1. Curb appeal is important. When decorating your porch for Halloween, think about what you’re trying to enhance. That’s the key here. You don’t want to mask anything or distract from the home itself.
  2. Keep the decorations to a minimum. Whether it’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, an abundance of holiday lights and decorations can take away from a home when you’re trying to sell it. We want to show off what your property has to offer, and we need a careful hand when it comes to decorations in order to do that.

All of these things can enhance a buyer’s first impression.

  3. Lighting is important, too. Days are getting shorter and there isn’t as much light during the day as there used to be. It’s important to try and keep as many lights on as you can when it’s dark and let in as much natural light as possible when it isn’t.
  4. Make it warm and cozy. Adding a few pillows, a throw blanket, or candles can do wonders for a room. Adjust the temperature in your home as the weather gets colder, too.
  5. Make it smell nice, too. Whether it’s pumpkin spice, cinnamon, or pine, fall and winter have unique scents that can leave a lasting impression. Don’t overdo it, but embrace these scents and use them throughout your home.

All of these things can enhance a buyer’s first impression of your home. If you have any questions or are thinking about selling your home this fall or winter, give me a call or send me an email. I’d love to hear from you.
